I Failed on Day One of My Writing Challenge

I guess I’m a little bit ashamed

Well, this is embarrassing.

Just 2 days ago, I announced to all my Medium followers that I was taking on a challenge to write and publish an article every day for the next 30 days.

I had it all planned out — topics brainstormed, schedule made, alarms set on my phone to remind me to write. I talked a big game about how motivated and committed I was to this challenge.

And then I failed. Day one? Didn’t write a thing.

To be fair, I had every intention of sitting down to work on my first post. I even had THREE different article ideas outlined and ready to expand on.

But then life happened, as it always does.

First, I got distracted answering emails and scrolling through TikTok instead of opening my drafts. Before I knew it, an hour had passed, and I still hadn’t written a single sentence.

Okay, no problem. I’ll just have to be extra productive this evening to make up for lost time today, I told myself. Except…I ended up going out to dinner, binged Lost, and completely forgot about my challenge.

By the time I opened my laptop at 11pm, my brain was fried. I glanced at my notes app with the half-baked ideas I’d written…
